Lake, Smit & Partners boosts International Day of Radiology theme: ‘Radiologists & Radiographers supporting patients during COVID-19.’

Every year, the International Day of Radiology (IDoR2020) is celebrated on 8th November with the aim of building greater awareness of the value that radiology contributes to safe patient care and to improving public understanding of the vital role radiologists and radiographers play in the healthcare field.

In 2020, the International Day of Radiology has been dedicated to all imaging professionals and their essential role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic making an indispensable contribution to the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 patients.

At Lake, Smit & Partners, we acknowledge the significant challenges that our radiographers and staff alike, have faced being at the frontline of imaging COVID-19 patients. They have played an immensely important role, often going above and beyond their calling in playing their part in this battle against the pandemic. Besides experiencing a shift in their professional work routine and home and family dynamics, their well-being has also been greatly affected by being exposed to the COVID-19 patient on a daily basis. Adapting to the “new way of work” has been challenging yet, together with our radiologists, support staff and referring clinicians, they have shown dedication, resilience and professionalism while always having a caring and compassionate focus on our patients.

To meet the challenging work environment for both staff and patients alike, Lake, Smit & Partners initiated a number of innovative protective equipment designs to keep both staff and patients safe and to limit the spread of the virus. These included an intubation headbox, CT and MRI patient imaging headbox, screening x-ray cubicles and UV light room sanitizers to sterilize the x-ray rooms.

Dedication to their profession, providing quality patient care and skill expertise has been our arsenal to combat any challenges faced during this time.
